World Champion
3x Number 1 In The World
Head Coach - Stanford University
Consistency. Determination. Balance.
Alex Massialas has been coached by his father and three-time Olympian, Greg Massialas since the very first time he picked up a sword. Enthralled by his father’s Olympic paraphernalia as a young kid, Alex became determined to become an Olympian, even prior to discovering his natural talent with fencing. In 2012, Alex’s Olympic dream came true as he represented Team USA with the men’s foil squad. Four years later, Alex won a historic individual Silver medal and Bronze team medal at the Rio Olympics.
Alex has remained in the top 16 world rankings for men’s foil each year since 2012. He continues to train for the next Olympics under his father’s stewardship at the Massialas fencing club in San Francisco, CA.
Alex is now the head fencing coach at this alma mater, Stanford University. In his first season back on The Farm, he led the team back to their best finish at the NCAA Championships since 2014 and coached the 2025 women’s foil NCAA Champion to Stanford’s first individual NCAA Championship in fencing since 2015 - the last year he won it himself.
